(From Our Own Correspondent.) BALCLUTHA, September 27. COMPLAINT BY BUILDERS. Several of the'leading builders here are complaining about the .shortness of time allowed by the Public Works Department in connection with tenders for the extensive additions to the South Otago High School buildings. The plans armed in Balclutha on Wednesday,last, and tenders closed on Tuesday at Wellington. As only one builder could inspect the plans at the one' time, and the job was one involving probably over £2OOO, it was impossible to make up .estimates and the result has been that several builders have not sent in tenders at all. These latter the successful tenderer for the original . High School building* AN OLD LANDMARK. The Clutha County Council building, the demolition of which was commenced to day was built iii 1877 for the firm of Grigor and Maitland. Later, other firms in the stock agency business occupied it, until it was purchased by the Clutha County Council. The workmen engaged in the work of demolition find the old timbers actually crumbling to pieces in places. Temporary premises for the county nave been found in the building formerly occupied by'the Public Trust. COMMERCIAL COURSE. The inspectors who are now at the South Otago High School met m conference with the members of the School Board, and discussed the establishing of a commercial course at the school., Aha* question will be decided at the next meeting of the board. PERSONAL. Miss Ada Riach has been appointed assistant clerk to Clutha County Council, in succession to Mr A, K.
