Mr Jack Moore, of Taihape, a farmer, was lucky to escape uninjured at the Cook street level crossing when' the bumper;of his car was struck by the express at mid-day. When approaching the crossing Mr Moore's attention was attracted by a shunting engine in the railway yard, and he did not observe the express coming from the opposite direction.
