QUEEN AS SALESWOMAN
STALL SOON EMPTIED DELIGHTED CUSTOMERS. LONDON, September 6. The Queen "kept shop" at a garden fete at Abergeldie Castle, two miles from Balmoral, and within 20 minutes nothing remained in her 20ft stall. Ever smiling, and occasionally laughing outright, her Majesty served a clamorous crowd of village women with cups and saucers, jugs, work baskets, pin cushions, and other homely articles. Sha called the prices clearly, and occasionally commented on the good taste of the purchaser. In one instance her Majesty said to a delighted customer: "That is a fine jug you bought." She was briskly professional:" That is ss. Thank you. A shilling change." After cleaving out her own stall the Queen assisted the Duchess of York and Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret Rose in selling game and white heather.
