OUTLOOK TOO NARROW
SCIENTISTS AND CHURCHES
APPEAL BY.CLERGYMAN.
LONDON, September 24.
Dr Dearmer, preaching at Westminster Abbey, urged a broader scientific outlook. He said it was immoral for scientists to say that they were_ Unable to cease inventing the most efficient explosives and poison gas. They should work for international peace and maintain a standard of scientific ethics. Both the scientists and the churches suffered from a sectarian, narrow outlook. Dr Dearmer endorsed the British Association president's suggestion of a "Solomon's house," where specialists could serve humanity by religiously combining the powers of science, art, and ethics..-
The Rev. Percy Dearmer, M.A., D.D., is a canon of Westminster. He is lecturer in art and professor of ecclesiastical art at King's College, London. He is the author of a large number of books on religious and ethical subjects and on art and music.
