ALLEGED THEFT OF RINGS
VISITOR TO JEWELLERS' SHOPS POLICE MAKE AN ARREST. (Per United Press Assopiation.) GREYMOUTH, September 25. Two jeweller's shops were robbed of rings to-day by a man who is believed to be unemployed and was subsequently Arrested* ' Asking to see engagement rings at Tennent's-he distracted Mr Tennents attention and then removed one, saying he would bring his fiamee to see one he liked. Mr Tennent then discovered his loss and informed the police. 'ln the meantime the man had gone to Gilbert's shop in the next block. Here he adopted similar tactics and secured a £27 ring from a woman assistant, who later followed and identified him in an hotel bar, as also did Mr.Tennent. A constable, on his arrival, saw him drop one ring on the floor. The other ring was found behind a barrel. The arrested man will appear in court to-morrow.
