ARREST OF A BOAT

DETECTIVES ASK FOR A MATCH. Detectives from Edinburgh hired . a rowing boat at Portobello last month and arrested a suspect several hundred yards from the beach, which was packed with holidaymakers. The arrest was a sequel to a series of burglaries in residential parts of Edinburgh. Information was received that a wanted man was seen at Portobello, and four detectives in a epeed car raced to the beach, where a man in a rowing boat was pointed out. Two detectives followed in another boat, taking off their coats to give the appearance of. holidaymakers, and when within speaking distance asked for a match.

The quarry obliged, but while handing the detectives the match his wrists were seized and he was dragged into the other boat. The value of the stolen property amounted to over £2OOO.
