. No.: 3 DISTRICT ; "The committee of No. 3 District at its last meeting, which was well attended, reviewed the work in the depot for the past year. The general report stated that the coin-mittee;ha4:met-regiiJarly:every month,' the Rev. W. Allen Stevely being in the chair and Mr J. Ironside acting as hon. secretary. Mr J. Farquharson.had represented the committee on the Central Executive. The committee recorded its appreciation of the voluntary helpers who had rendered such splendid'service at .the initiation of the depot in Dowling,street; and also to 1 the band of hardworking voluntary officials who had given regular service at the depot through the year—Mrs Armstrong. Miss Adams, Sjster.; Elinor,.; Messrs. M'Adam, F. Foot'e, J. Heahey, J. Millar, J. Reid, -J— the repreae'n- : tatiVes of various ■; public:, bodies and: women's/guilds. All had worked together, harmoniously. : - A special effort raise, funds took'the form of a concert in. the Town Hall Concert. Chamber, the pro-: gramme'being arranged by Dr Galway. 'i : -'" W-i)'i '■' The reports from-the depot officials showed : ,that the/relief given fiad: been, an ever-increasing quantity,, and that while many had fulfilled their obligations ;by; payments for: goods at the reduced price, there retifainecf a considerable .amount out-; standing.' •.„ . .. Mr Farquharson gave some.illuminating figures showing the volume of assistance given in clothing, grocery orders, etc Mr M'Adam reported that up to July 31 last, 2389 bags of coal and 511 of wood had been issued. The total registrations numbered-530. ' . . , . '•'.., Mr Ironside intimated that he would like "to be relieved of his duties as hop. - secretary, as he felt that the work could be more conveniently performed, by an official of the depot.—The. resignation was received with-, regret, and thanks expressed for the services rendered.—Mr *. Foote was appointed secretary. . It was decided that the depot should be open for coal and wood orders only from November 1. , .•■■■ ■»*■_. Votes of thanks were passed to Mr M'Adam, who fished to be the charge of grocery orders, and to Messrs Speight an§ Co. for the use in Dowling street, and .also to Mr J. Martyn (treasurer).
