LAWN TENNIS
OTAGO CLUB The forty-seventh annual meeting of the Otago Lawn Tennis Club was held on Saturday. There ; was a good attendance of members. The president (Mr A. JN. Haggitt) was in the chair. On behalf of the committee, a beautitul bouquet, carried out in the club s colours, red and gold, was presented to Mrs A. JN. Haggitt (wife of the president) by Miss Jackson. ... j„,j On the motion of the chairman, seconded by Mr. Cox, the annual report and balance sheet for the year were adopted, bpeaking of the performances of the A and tf teams in flag matches, the chairman stated that the A team had been unfortunate in that it had not been able to maintain its full strength throughout the season. Otherwise it would undoubtedly have been still higher up in the competition. The B team had shown a marked improvement from the previous year, and he congratulated its members on having won eight of the ten matches played. The following office-bearers for the ensuing season were elected:—President, Mr A. N. Haggitt; vice-presidents—Misses _£. Jackson and W. Hislop and Mr J. Bdmond; hon. secretary, Mrs C. Roy Spacknmn: hon. treasurer. Miss E. Jackson committee-Misses G. Hislop, V. Livingston, and H. Borne, and Messrs C. U Cox E. G. Boddy, and W. His op; hon auditor, Mr W. T. Mrs Haggitt presented the cups and trophies won in the club tournaments last S 6 At "the conclusion of the annual meeting Mr Haggitt welcomed representatives from th e Otago Lawn Tennis As.oc.t.on —Mr E. D. Duthie (president), Mr Begg, and Mr Falconer—and also club members and their friends. A special vote of thanks was passed to Mr Himburg and members of Be-g's orchestra, who savn their services, their bright and spirited playing adding greatly to the pleasure ot the function. _________ NORTH TAIERI CLUB. Saturday was a gala day at North Taieri, when the North Taieri District Lawn Tennis Club opened its new courts. The weather was pleasant, though du !, and a shower which fell did not materially interfere with the pleasure of those present. The attendance was large, and a very enjoyable time was spent, tor a new club, 'the standard of play wa s fairly high, and should improve as the season advances. The club is to be congratulated on the property which it now owns.
