JUNIOR RED CROSS

Sister Kirkpatrick reports on behalf of the Junior Red Cross Association that regular health talks (combined with first aid instruction in some schools) were held at High Street, Mornington, Arthur street and Caversham. The first aid class at St. Philomena’s College is still in operation. Seven visits were paid to soldiers’ dependents and clothing was given. Junior Red Cross circles have sent parcels of foodstuffs regularly to families and are continuing with individual circle programmes. Circles providing foodstuffs are as follows:—Arthur street, High Street, Kaikorai, George Street, Maori Hill, Musselburgh, North-East Valley, St, Hilda’s, Otago Girls’ High School, King Edward Technical College. Wakari and Mornington Junior Red Cross circles have assisted relief depots and Macandrew Road and Caversham have assisted the Open Air School. Miss Joachim, who has been appointed patroness of the Junior Red Cross Society, gave very interesting travel talks to two schools, through -which circle funds in each case have been materially assisted. Kaikorai Junior Red Cross handed over a large supply of garments and toys and books to the Children’s Rest Home, Roslyn. An interesting portfolio display in the window of Messrs Whitcombe and Tombs attracted a great deal of attention. Portfolios from Ans : tria, France, Bulgaria, Holland, United States were shown alongside two local specimens and many foreign magazines were also on view, The displays illustrated the international section of Junior Red Cross and its motto, “ Friendliness.” An address was given to the Sawyers’ Bay Mothers’ Union.
