“LES CLOCHES DE CORNEVILLE”

All lovers of music and the stage will be interested in the Dunedin Operatic Society's forthcoming production. “Les Cloches de Corneville,” which will be presented for a Season of seven nights and two matinees at His Majesty’s Theatre, commencing on October 7. 'lbis play is one of the classics of the comic opera stage and is played as often in France as Gilbert and Sullivan is played in England. It has already been staged for several successful seasons in Dunedin, the last production being in 1917. Pri6r to that, it was played in 1888 and in 190 b, when many well known people were included, in the cast. Mr J. A. Haggltt played the part of the Buillie on this occasion. Mrs Richard Hudson, the Sports Queen at the recent carnival, took the soprano lead in the role of Germaine; and Miss L, Jetts (now Mrs J* Leech) played the part of Jeanne. The play abounds in beautiful music, bright ballets, and colourful scenes, and it has a fascinating story with a ghostly plot. The cast assembled for the part is exceptionally strong, both in acting and singing, and is considered by those who have known the society since its earliest days as the best cast since the society’s notable production, “ Our Miss Gibbs.”
