OTAGO TRAMPING CLUB

ANNUAL REPORT. The tenth annual report of the Otago Tramping Club, to be presented at the annual meeting next Wednesday evening, states i •** ~~ Attendances at the various outings have been very satisfactory, and the walks as set out in the fixture card have included practically all the interesting places around Dunedin. As usual, extended trips were arranged for Labour week-end, Christmas, and Easter. The Christmas camp was at Lake Gunn, and 32 members enjoyed a 10-day’s stay in this fascinating region. Numerous trips were made from the camp, the outstanding one being to the top of the Livingstone Range. Some of the party went on into the Upper Hollyford region as far as the Gertrude Saddle and the Homer Hut. A notable trip was accomplished by three of our lady members, who spent a mouth in the Rees, Dart, and Routeburn Valleys. The chief ascents made by various members of this party were the east peak of Mount Earnslaw, Leary Peak, Mount Anstead, Snowy Creek Saddle, an unnamed peak at the head of the north branch of the Routeburn, and Double Cone (Remarkables). At Easter 19 members travelled to Tapanui, which became the base for some trips to the Blue Mountains. In March, a photographic evening was held and monthly socials have been held during the winter. An outstanding event during the year was the decision to erect a hut at the Silver Peaks. Permission was granted by the Dunedin City Corporation, and a sub-committee was appointed to deal with the matter. The hut. was completed in May. and was officially opened by Miss A. F. Edmond on June 3. Following the erection of the hut the question of incorporation was considered, and at a special meeting it was decided that the club should take steps to become incorporated. The membership at August 31 was 155, an increase of seven for the year.
