SPRING MEETING OPENED SPEEDMINT PRINCIPAL WINNER. (Peb United Press Association.) WANGANUI, September 22. The Wanganui Jockey Club’s spring meeting was commenced to-day after being postponed from yesterday owing to heavy rain. The weather turned out fine, with bright sunshine. The course was in good order, and the attendance was fair. The totalisator handled £6253 10s, compared with £6846 10s for the first day last year. Following are the results:— OKEHU HURDLES, Of SOsovs. One mile and a-half. 2—KNOLLMERE. 10.7 (L. Dulieu) ~ 1 I—HENRY OF NAVARRE, 11.1 - (W. Bowden) 2 The only starters. Won by six lengths. Time, 2min 47sec. Knollraere led to the five furlongs, where Henry of Navarre headed him for a moment, but the winner ran away over the last two furlongs. Royal Hunting and Slippery were the leaders, being followed into the- straight by Red Manfred and Curie. Royal Hunting just held off Red Manfred and Curie, heads separating the trio at the finish. View Halloo was fourth. Time, Imin 13 4-ssee. An inquiry was held after the Putiki Hack Handicap into the running of Cherry King, and as a result the rider, R.
