Belcher, the Dunedin members of the Executive oi the New Zealand Brass Bands’ Association, left by yesterday’s express tor Wellington, where they will attend a conference to discuss the Palmerston Aortn dispute. ~ , A Press Association cable message irom Sydney states that Mr Cholmondeley Daivall was yesterday appointed general manager of the Commercial Banking Company of Sydney, Limited, in succession to the late Mr J. R. Dryhurst. Mr St. J. J. Dunne, accountant at the Wellington Post Office, has been transferred to Christchurch, where he will take up the position of assistant postmaster. Mr Dunne is well-known in Dunedin, having filled the position of treasurer of the Otago Rugby Football Union for many years. , , Mr H. F. Titchener. whose eyes have been troublesome for four years, has left for Auckland to take a course in the Braille system at the Jubilee Institute for the Blind. . , , Mr G. P. Prichard, assistant sub-col-lector of Customs at Dunedin, has received notice of his transfer to Gisborne as collector. He will be succeeded by Mr O. M. G. Richardson, who is at present examining officer at Auckland. Mr- A. W. Jones, and Mr J. W. Woulf, clerks in the Customs Department at Dunedin, have been promoted to the positions of examining officer and warehouse-keeper reepectively. Mr J. W. Macdonald, who has been promoted to the position of secretary and deputy commissioner of the Government Life Insurance Department, was born in Dunedin in 1886 and also educated here. He is a grandson of Mr Archibald Macdonald, schoolmaster, one of the original settlers of Otago, who arrived at Dunedin by the ship Philip Laing in 1848. Mr Macdonald joined the department in 1902 at Wellington, and has occupied various positions in the Auckland, Napier, and Wellington offices. He was promoted to the position of chief clerk early in 1932. Mr Macdonald was a member of the- New Zealand' Expeditionary Force, and had 1 two years’ active service in France. He was wounded as Passchendaele in October, 1917, and on his recovery continued on active service until the Armistice. Subsequently he accompanied the New Zealand Division to Cologne when the division formed part of the Army of Occupation. •
