MR STEPHEN OTTOWA WELL-KNOWN RAGING MOTORIST (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) SYDNEY, September 21. Driving through a blinding rainstom near Mittagong, Mr Stephen Ottowa, a well-known racing motorist, died suddenly at the wheel. He was hurrying to catch the steamer for Launceston, where his mother is critically ill. His wife was accompanying him, and had to wait with the dead man in the car for nearly an hour before a passing motorist arrived.
MR T. ,R. MACKAY Mr T. R. Mackay, manager of the stock and wool department of the Canterbury Farmers’ Co-operative Association, whose death occurred at Timaru on Wednesday morning, was born at Waitahuna, and received his early training in farming on the Clifton Estate. As a young man he joined the stock and station firm of Messrs Donald Reid and Co., in Dunedin, and remained with it for some years. Later he went into partnership in a business in Balclutha, but in 1908 he went to Timaru as second auctioneer in the local branch of Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd. In 1916, Mr Mackay was transferred to the firm’s Wanganui branch as auctioneer, hut after nine months in the North Island he resigned his position, and returned to Timaru as auctioneer for the National Mortgage and Agency Company, which position he took up in February, 1917. Mr Maekay’s outstanding ability enabled him to make rapid progress, and he rose to the position of manager, resigning in 1928 to become manager of the stock and wool department of the Canterbury Farmers’ Co-operative Association, which position he held up to the time of his death.
