PARLIAMENTARY NEWS

PREPARING FOR NEW SESSION (From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, September 20. GOVERNMENT WHIP. The appointment of a whip in place of Mr J. Bitchonor, now a Cabinet Minister, will be a question to be decided at the caucus of the Coalition Party to be held to-morrow evening. When the Coalition Government was formed two years ago Mr Bitchener, senior Re form whip, and Mr A. J. Murdoch, who had been senior United whip until promoted to Cabinet rank, were appointed Government whips. As the nomination of Mr Bitchener’s successor is in the hands of the Reform Party it is expected that Mr J. A. Nash (Palmerston), who was junior whip when the Reform Party was in opposition, will be appointed. LABOUR PARTY’S CAUCUS. A Labour Party caucus will be held to-morrow morning. Mrs M'Combs is expected to arrive from the south tomorrow, and a Labour Party function in her honour has been arranged for tomorrow evening.
