MEETING OF ASSOCIATION A meeting of the committee of the Otago Lawn Tennis Association was held in Mr E. S. Wilson’s board room last night, when there were present Messrs E. D. Duthie (president), R. Phillipps, G. I. Black, G. A. Pearce, R. A. Guy, J. Jack, A. T. Jensen, A. E. M'Adam, A. M'Millan, T. Grimsdale, G, J. Ravylinson, L. S. Swallow, S. Falconer, and S'. M. Brown.

The; following sub-committees were appointed Coif ipetitions , Committee —• Messrs A. T. Jensen (convener), T. Grimsdale, R. Phillipps, and C. J. Raw* linsonj delegates to the United ClubrMessrs R. Phillipps, A. T. Jensen,. E, D. Duthie, and T. Grimsdale; Selection and Handicapping Committee —Messrs A. T. Jensen (convener), C. J; Rawlihson, and S. Falconer; Finance .Committee—Messrs A. M'Millan (convener), A. E. M'Adam, ,S. N. Brown, and G. I. Black; Ladder Committee—-Messns T. Grimsdale (convener), G. A. Pearce, R. A. Guy,’and L. S. Swallow. ' It was resolved that players for the major representative teams be selected from the ladder, and that for minor matches the selection be left to the discretion of the Selection Committee. It was resolved' that club matches should commence on Saturday, September 30, and that entries' should close on Monday, September 25. ■' Recommendations from the annual meeting were, dealt with as follows 1. That the M'Millan Cup competition be arranged on a date which will not interfere with competition matches.—lt was resolved to refer this matter to the Competitions Committee. 2. That an effort be made to enter a team from the Otago group for the Wilding Memorial Trophy.—Held over. 3. That an effort be made to improve the Otago blazer,—lt was resolved that this matter be referred to Messrs: S. Falconer and G. A. Pearce to report, 4. That the association take up the matter of coaching seriously, and that a coaching committee- be appointed to organise coaching in the clubs in order, to bring on young players.—Mr T. Grimsdale moved: “That the secretary circularise each dub and ask it to nominate up to four promising players to receive coaching at Logan Park one night a week; a reply to be received by October 4.”—This was seconded by Mr R, Phillipps and parried. 'r It was resolved to write to the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association apply* ing : for the New Zealand hard court championships to be held in Dunedin. ' The Wellington Table Tennis Association wrote regarding the. formation of an association im the various centres and the formation of a New Zealand Association—This matter was referred to Mr R. A. Guy. The president referred to the excellent work done by several members of the association in connection with the queen carnival, and specially thanked Messrs R, Phillipps, A. E. M‘Adam, T. Grimsdale, J. Jack and A. T. Jensen and Misses White, ; Brown, and Barton for their services.

The Junior Lawn Tennis Association made application for the use of the Logan Park courts from 9 a.xn. till noon on Saturdays.- I —lt was resolved that the junior association be granted the use of the courts in the meantime, subject to the association having the right to take the courts at any time when required. The question of increasing the interest in lawn tennis in the primary schools was discussed, and it was resolved that the Schools' Sports Association be written to asking if it would receive a delegation from the association to ascertain if it would be possible to arrange a primary schools’ competition in furtherance of junior tennis —Messrs Phillipps,.Duthie and M'Millan were appointed a sub-committee to meet the Schools Association.. ' , Mr Grimsdale moved —“ That a B Grade championship for ladies and men, open to Otago players, be held in connection with the Easter tournament, players to be below A Grade status.— This was seconded by Mr S. Falconer and carried. Mr Grimsdale reported that the Otago Sports Depot was prepared to present a cup for the winner of the Ladies Championship Singles at the Easter tournament each year. —It was resolved to thank the Otago Sports Depot for it» donation.
