THE BYRD EXPEDITION
SPECIAL RADIO APPARATUS FEASIBILITY OF BROADCAST. NEW YORK, September 18. It was announced to-day that the Byrd expedition will be equipped with a special radio apparatus to permit broadcasting to the United States via Buenos Aires. Both the aeroplane and the two bases will serve as broadcasting stations, and facilities are being planned for Admiral Byrd to make one or more talks while flying over the Polar regions. Local technicians have been experimenting for months with a special equipment for studying the climatic conditions and other difficulties. They believe that much valuable radio data will result from the attempt. Signor Marconi has cabled to Admiral Byrd offering his co-operation and expressing his belief in the feasibility of broadcasts.
