MEMORIAL WINDOW
WORK OF DUNEDIN FIRM DEDICATION IN AUCKLAND - ■ a The fact that church and other organisations in the north and elsewhere are becoming increasingly aware of the existence in Dunedin of a manufacturing concern which can undertake the creation of stained-glass windows which, in design, materials, and workmanship, compare favourably with the imported article, is exemplified by the numbers of orders which have been recently received by Eraser’s Art Glass Works, Rattray street. Some time ago thig_ firm manufactured a triple memorial window
to Edna O. Rhodes, for installation at Auckland, and several further orders for windows of a secred or symbolical character have been received, including one for a memorial window which will be installed in a Wesleyan church in Auckland to the memory of the Rev. George Bond. This window, which is now completed and will be shipped north to-day, is a graceful and artistic creation of the single-panel type, the subject being modelled on William Holman Hunt’s well-known “ The Light of the World.” One of the mbat impressive symbolical works of the last century, this subject has been treated with skill and taste, and the completed window should do much to strengthen still further this firm’s just claims to recognition in the sphere of art window manufacture. The central figure of the Saviour is surmounted by a canopy of orthodox design and flanked by shafting, the_ whole being set on a background of richly treated foliage, the form and colouring of the window as a whole being strikingly artistic. The memorial will be dedicated in Auckland on Sunday.
