WOMAN’S COURAGE
GOES TO HUSBAND’S AID When a woman heard a man threaten to shoot her husband in their shop at Petersham, Sydney, early one recent morning, she seized a piece of wood and struck the intruder so heavily that he fell in a dazed state to the floor. The Petersham police were told that Mr C. H. Young went to bed in the dwelling portion of his shop late at night. About an hour later he heard a man moving about his shop. He ran down the stairs in his pyjamas and saw a man attempting to hide behind the counter. He closed with him. A desperate struggle occurred. Each man fought to overcome the other and they lurched across the shop, crashing against the fittings. Mrs Young had stayed upstairs to put on a dress. She had reached the bottom of the stairs when she heard her husband’s attacker threaten to shoot him. She seized a heavy billet of wood and rushed at the man. She brought the weapon down on his head with great force several times. The man staggered, released his grip on Mr Young, and fell to the floor.. When the police arrived they found that the man was almost unconscious. He was unable to speak. He was taken to a hospital, where he was treated by a doctor. His condition necessitated his admission and he spent the night in a ward with a constable stationed beside him. - ■>
