SPARROW SOUP FOR POOR
Dr Desider Navratil, of Budapest University, is reported to have submitted an unusual scheme to the municipality. He proposes that sparrows, which have become a pest in the public parks, should be sprayed with water in frosty weather as they sit on the trees. The result of the spraying, it is claimed, would be to freeze the birds’ wings and cause them to fall. It is suggested that they could then bo collected and made into soup for free distribution to the poor.
