WORK ON SUNDAY AT OTAKOU

TO THE EDITOR. Sib, —Must I congratulate the Otago Peninsula County Council on its management of district law, for it seems quite within its privilege to allow the Kaik road, a main highway, to be obstructed by a cumbersome shed, the removal of which required the work of men all the Sabbath Day? Perhaps the Otago Harbour Board was under the impression that such an insignificant place as Otakou would not be concerned about such Sabbath desecration; or perhaps the county council had granted permission for the work to be carried forward. It rather makes one fee] like sinking into obscurity when this noble example ig set before the eyes of the Maori population by some of our leading citizens of Dunedin. Wishing to see such Sunday occurrences prohibited—l am, etc., A Resident.
