ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL

TO THE EDITOR. Sib, — I would like to endorse what correspondent, Mr J. Brown, has to say with reference to the treatment meted out to the Northern Club. That the Otago Football Association should allow itself to be dictated to by club officials is regrettable. An instance of this occurred last Saturday (as explained by your correspondent) in the transference of this match. Northern v. Technical, from the Gardens to the Oval ground. This arrangement was brought about to suit the wish of a Technical Club official who was afraid that his team might suffer defeat if the match were played on Northern’s home ground. I venture to say that this is not the first occasion on which an arrangement has been made to suit the wishes of the same official. On September 2 Northern should have played Technical, but owing to the latter .chib having suspended two of its First Grade players arrangements were made to alter the draw. Technical Second Grade was to play Morniugton, but the latter defaulted, and as a result things were made »mucb easier for the Teemsical Club’s First Grade engagement. Perhaps the O.F.A. can also explain why the Second Grade competition is not closed. The issue is beyond doubt, and nothing is to be gained by playing matches on September 23. Several of the clubs have defaulted lately in their Second Grade matches, and it will be impossible for my club to keep its Second Grade engagement on Saturday week owing to

many young players having to go to camp. Mr J. Brown suggests that two other clubs have been getting their own way this year, but fails to mention the_ names of the. clubs or any further particulars. Although the Management Committee has a hard road to hoe, it seems a pity that any of its members should be in any way connected with a club or hold office for such club.— l am, etc.. Sport.
