RICCARTON TRACK WORK

The outside of the trial grass track provided excellent galloping ground at Riccarton'ori Tuesday morning. The candidates for the Ashburton meeting provided the chief interest, but there was not much excitement about the proceedings. The Masquerader, going freely, sprinted half a mile along the back in 50sec. Southdown and Elude ran six furlongs in’lmin 17 3-ssec, True Shaft joining in for the last half mile, which occupied 52sec. Advance Camp covered a mile nicely in Imin 48sec. Martian Chief and Tout le Aloud, assisted by Tuirau over the last half mile, ran seven furlongs in Imin 31 2-ssec, after taking 40sec for the first three. Cricket Bat reeled off a mile in Imin 43sec. He did the first half in SOsec, but was slowing down at the finish. Heather Glow occupied Imin 47sec for a mile, the last half taking 54 3-ssec. Silvox did seven furlongs comfortably in Imin 36 2-ssec, while Rebel and Copyist, separately, got through similar tasks. Shatter had Nightly for a mate over seven furlongs, which they ran in Imin 30sec, a useful gallop, as Shatter finished well. Sweet Agnes took Imin 32gec for seven furlongs, but did her work attractively. Drumfire ran six furlongs in Imin 18 3-sseo. Fleeting Glance had a slight advantage over Niggerhead at the end of six furlongs in Imin 19sec. Water Polo and Haere Tonu sprinted half a mile along the back in 50 2-ssec. Fiat Lux and St. Joan took Imin 35sec for seven furlongs, but they were not ridden out. Manetho, assisted over the last four by Davolo. occupied Imin 7sec for five furlongs. Sky Lass following over the same ground in Imin 8 3-sscc. Verden covered six furlongs easily in Imin 22sec. ■ Don Jose (G. Barr) led Tea Garden (W. J. Pascoe) over two hurdles, after which they were on terms for two more. Both horses jumped well. Ramo covered nine furlongs attractively in Imin 59sec, doing the last half mile in 52sec. Ranelagh and Hurlingham were to have gone six furlongs together, but the latter broke away. Ranelagh ran seven, Hurlingham joining in after a furlong, and they did the last half mile in 52 2-sscc. Errantry occupied Imin 20 3-ssec for an easy run over six furlongs, Royal Limond taking Imin 22sec. Spoon covered a mile m Imm 45 2-seee the last half , in 50 2-saec. Grand Review and Great Star were given useful work over six furlongs.
