PALMERSTON NOTES

(From Odr Own Correspondent.) PALMERSTON, September 13. PLUNKET SOCIETY. A meeting of the Palmerston branch of the Plunket Society was held yesterday, Mrs W. J. M'Kenney presiding. Ihe resolution winding up the branch was confirmed,. as also was that forming a 'sub-branch. Mrs W. R. Hedge was appointed liquidator. ' The first meeting of the sub-branch was then held. A motion of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mrs’ J. A. ; Johnstone was passed, members standing m silence. It was decided to send a letter of appreciation for the beqiiest of the half of £75 from the estate of Mr .A. D. Bell. The. other, half goes id , the Dunback sub-branch. It was decided that the next meeting be held in one months time. Accounts amounting to £26 13s 2d were passed for. payment. Mesdames I. A. Borton and W. J. M'Kenney were appointed to the Finance Committee. It was announced that the sub-branch quota would be £4B per annum, and it wag decided to pay it half-yearly. The report of the nurse stated that general health and progress was satisfactory. Visits to homes were 38; to office —adults 54, babies 48, children 10; to nursing home, '2

At the close of the meeting, Mrs W. R. Wedge, who has been secretary for the past four years, was presented with an illuminated address in recognition of her past services.

UNEMPLOYMENT COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Palmerston Unemployment Committee was held' last night, the Mayor {Mr W. B. Galloway) presiding. An application under Scheme 4a from Mr D, A. M'Kenzie, for one man to clear gorse was, referred to .the Waihemo County Council,- the applicant also to be notified that no more applications were to be considered for six months. The application of Mr R.-L.-Smith for.two men for about-three months for grubbing gorse and development work, which was held over from the last meeting for further information, was granted. The Shag ■ Point School Committee applied for men for the levelling of the school ground. It was decided to notify the committee that no men* were available at present, but the application would be considered when the men-became available. ■ . ’
