Mr John M'Gee, the oldest soldier to fight in the British armies during the war, has died at Monze, Northern Rhodesia. He was nearly 100 years old. When volunteering for service in East Africa in 1914 he unblushingly gave his age as 37. Mr M'Gee was allowed to accompany the Rhodesian troops, and it is recorded that he took part in several “ warm ” skirmishes, but after a year he was invalided out of the army. He settled in Northern Rhodesia, and at the time of his death he was living on a farm presented to him by Sir Starr Jameson.
