GOLF
OTAGO CLUB. The semi-finals of the Knock-out Competition were played on Balmacewen links on Saturday afternoon. In both matches the lower-handicap men found the strokes they had to concede too much for them, but C. P. Bowden, playing against R. K. Aspinall, jun., who was in receipt of 10 strokes, put up a grim fight and finished the 18 holes with the match all square. The conditions are that in the event of a tie the match should continue over a group of four holes, and at the end of the first group this game was still all square, requiring the contestants to play a further four holes, on the completion of which R. R. Aspinall, jun., won. In the other match between J. G. Dick and J. M. Sidey the latter was in receipt of 11 strokes and playing excellent golf beat Dick by 4 and 2.
