RUGBY FOOTBALL
OTAGO v. MARLBOROUGH The first representative match of the season will be played at. Carisbrook this afternoon, when the Marlborough touring team will meet an Otago team. This is the first occasion on which a Marlborough team has visited Dunedin, and the match is being looked forward to with great interest. The visitors possess several very promising players, the backs being fast and nippy, while the forwards should prove a solid proposition. The Otago team is also a good side, capable of giving a bright exhibition of Rugby. As a curtain-raiser the Third Grade match High School v. University E will be played. Arrangements have been made for receiving progress reports of the Otago-Southland match, and these will be posted on the score board at Carisbrook as they come to hand. The scores are expected at 3.15, 3.35, 4.5 and 4.35 p.m. Official guides will be on sale as usual. - ' ■ . ■ OTAGO v. SOUTHLAND The Otago team to play Southland at Invercargill. to-day left by Corporation bus yesterday afternoon. Advices from Invercargill received yesterday state that heavy rain and the atmospheric conditions threaten to reduce Rugby Park to a quagmire. The match will not be broadcast.
