(From Our Own Correspondent.) BALCLUTHA, August 3. BRASS BAND. At the annual meeting of the Balclutha Brass Band the balance sheet showed that the band was steadily improving its financial position, although still having a little leeway to make up, in the shape of a debit balance of £43 11s 9d. Mr S. V. White was re-elected president; vice-presidents—Messrs P. M'Skimmmg, F. Waite, James Guest, M. Low, and J. W. Mitchell; secretary. Mr J. M. Doggart; committee —Messrs D. Kaye, Janies Cochrane, R. Davey, C. Wyber, John Gold, and E. Hurring; auditor, Mr J. W. Mitchell. PERSONAL. Prior to leaving Stirling railway staff for Dunedin, Mr William Hall was presented by his colleagues ahd the members of the Ivaitangata railway staff with a travelling rug, as a token of esteem. Mr Ericson, the station master, spoke highly of the work of Mr Hall, and wished him success in his new sphere. FOOTBALL PREMIERS. Crescent Club (Kaitangata) Seniors and Second Grade, has achieved the distinction of winning the flags m their respective competitions. Ihexr position at the head of the lists is unassailable, and they are not participating in the fixtures remaining to bo played off. it is claimed that Crescent have established a record for South Otago in winning both trophies. RELIEF OF DISTRESS. The ball held last night in aid of the Mayor’s Relief Fund proved an unqualilied success. Over £SO was taken, and the fund will actually benefit to the amount of £43. It is estimated that 170 couples were present. Mrs I‘leming presented the prizes to those adjudged the wearers of the best fancy costumes. Thanks were tendered by the Mayor to those who had helped, ' particularly the Organising Committee, the hall proprietor (Mr Mitchell) for the free use of the building, and the Glut ha Dance Bapd for tree LADIES' GOLF. Following is the draw for the second qualifying round of the Ladies’ Golf Club championships:— Grade.—Mrs Poynter v. Miss Fleming, Mrs Telford v. Miss Grant, Mrs Ramsay v. Miss Edwards, Mrs Walter v.
