The annual “ bottle kicking,” a custom centuries old, was held at Hallaton, Leicestershire lately. The “ bottles,” actually small casks, two of which were filled with beer, while one was empty, were carried in procession, and then thrown one by one into the crowd. Five hundred people battled for the casks through the streets, through a muddy brook, and through thorn hedges. The winter of our discontent is not here—we use Kaitangata Coal.—Advt.
