GALES ON VICTORIAN COAST. SHIPPING DISORGANISED. MELBOURNE, August 1. Coastal shipping is disorganised by the strong gales and high seas prevailing around the Victorian coast. Several vessels due from Sydney and Brisbane have failed to appear, and others arrived many hours late. BOWNING RAILWAY ACCIDENT. THE PENALISED EMPLOYEES. SYDNEY. August 1. It is announced on behalf of the Railways and Tramways Salaried Officers' Association that the association has decided to take legal steps to safeguard the interests of the four railway employees who, according to the Railway Commissioners, were responsible for the Bowning accident. An official statement says: " The whole inquiry into the Bowning accident reeks with injustice, and indicates the lengths to which officialdom is prepared to go in an effort to save the face of the Government for its policy of ineptitude and disregard of»public safety."
