FRIENDLY SOCIETIES

DRUTDISM. The meeting of Enterjn-ise Lodge, No. 2, was held last Wednesday, when A.D. Bro. W. Brown presided over a good attendance of members. The business of the evening waa quickly disposed of as members were anxious to adjourn for the purpose of carrying out the syllabus item, I social evening. At 8 p.m. the ladies \ were admitted and a very enjoyable game i of progressive euchre waa played until | 9.30, the winners being:-—First lady, ! Miss E. Leathley; man's first prize, Bro. 10. Ockwell. Bro. A. Croy took his seat | at the piano and dancing was carried on ! until 11.30 p";m., when the singing of ! " Auld Lang Syne" brought a very suc- | cessful evening to a close. During the I evening Miss Parata and Mr and Mrs J. j Denny rendered some Maori songs, which were warmly applauded. I A very pleasant evening was spent at j the Lily of the Valley Lodge, A.D. Bro. H. Winter being greeted by over 70 memj bers from city and country lodges. The ; meeting started early and the routine | work was got over promptly as Hose of I Palmerston, St. Patrick's, and West Harbour Lodges were expected. D.P. Bro. Bezett, No. 2 District, and D.P, Bro. Hopkins, No. 0 District, were officially received. The above-named lodges, whose arrival was announced by the guardian, were received with musical honours. The Palmerston brethren were asked to perform the initiation ceremony of a candidate, which they carried out in an impressive manner. A musical programme was in charge of P.A. Bro. Connor, West Harbour, the items being much appreciated. The toasts were honoured and responded to by the visiting brethren. Before closing A.D. Bro. Winter thanked all for their presence and mentioned the pleasure that had been afforded by those who had taken part in the harmony. A.D. Bro. D. Neason presided over a good attendance of officers and members at the last meeting of Linden Lodge. The usual payments were passed for sick pay . and accounts. One new member was initiated into the .Order, and the team to represent Linden in the forthcoming Ross Stewart Competition carried out the ceremony. An appeal from the executive of Linden's Pride Juvenile Lodge for greater active support from adult members was approved. The half-yearly balance sheet was read and adopted after complete discussion. P.G.P. Bro. E Sunderland congratulated the lodge on its financial stability. A vote of thanks was moved and passed to Bro. H. Tyrrell for his services to the lodge in passing through the chairs. It was decided to present Bro. Tyrrell with his P.A. collar and diploma. Bro. Manning, Otago, spoke on behalf of the visitors. On Wednesday evening Bro., Harnuss, A.D.,- Linden's Pride, welcomed eight adult, members to his lodge. The evening was devoted to ritual practice and shooting. A strong team was entered for the Initiation Shield Competition. ; A.D. Bro. presided over the fortnightly meeting of' Ivanhoe Lodge held on Wednesday last, when he was greeted by a good attendance of members and visitors. A small amount of correspondence was.dealt with. The bards' report was received, and sick pay was passed_ for payment. Sec. Bro. H. Brockie, A.D: Bro. Spinner,. and Bro. Brown reported on the jubilee smoke social held at AH Nations Lodge. ,Orie new'member l was proposed to become a financial member of the Order. After the business of the lodge had been dealt with the lodge adjourned for; the purpose of holding a dance. P.A. Bro. Heather and P.A. Bro. Anderson acted as M.C.'s. The fortnightly meeting of the Progress Juvenile Lodge was held last Wednesday, with A.D. Bro. W. Norman presiding over a good attendance of members. D.P. Bro. Bezett paid an official visit, and was given a warm welcome by A.D. Bro. W. Norman. The balance sheet was brought forward and was discussed bv Bro. Webb, auditor. D.P. Bro. Bezett. assisted by Bro. Patterson, judged the A.D.'s competition, which was won by Bro. W. Norman.. The Druidic toaste were given and responded to by D.P. Bro. Bezett, who thanked Bro. Jones for the toast, and also.A.D. Bro. Norman for the warm reception he received. GOOD TEMPLAR Y. ; " The Hope of Caversham Lodge held its monthly social ,on Thursday evening. There was a large attendance of members and friends. A very pleasant evening was spent with songs and games, those renderings items being Mrs Oliver (recitation), Miss C. Thorn and Miss J. Leishman (duet), Mr D. M. White (solo). During the evening Bro. and Sis. Duncan were presented with a basket of crockery and other kitchen ware, the Rev. Bro. Fish making the presentation on behalf of the lodge. Bro. Duncan suitably replied. , The Star of the South Juvenile Temple held its weekly meeting on Tuesday last. C.T. Bro.; J. Haig presided, Bro. J. Hilton being in charge oyer a large number of members. Prizes were awarded for the confectionery competition of the previous meeting as follows:—Sis. J. . Harrhy 1, Sis. Pearl Smith 2. , At the Radiant Morn Juvenile Temple's weekly meeting Sis. Williamson,. chief templar, presided, with the district superintendent in charge. One candidate was initiated. The following programme was rendered:—Temperance address, Bro. Rae; reading, superintendent; recitation, Sis. Gunion. • Sis. Steedman, chief templar, presided over a good attendance of members and officers and visitors in Hope of Dunedin Lodge. Reports on absent members were received. Sis. Beath was thanked for her assistance at the last session of the lodge. The superintendent of juvenile works, Sis. Rayner, reported on the activities of ike Silver Star Juvenile Temple. Sis. Frances South was appointed as official visitor to the temple for next week. The following programme was presented: —Sis. Beath, recitation; Mr King, piauoorte solo; Mr White, solo; Sis. Steedman, jun., and Mr White, duet; Sis. Webster, song; Sis. Rayner, song. ...The weekly meeting of the Rescue Lodge was held on Tuesday, when C.T. Bro. E. J. lies presided over a good attendance of members and visitors from the All Nations, Hope of Caversham, and Hope of Dunedin Lodges. A hearty welcome was accorded Sis. Williams and Bro. and Sis. M'Millan, who had been unable to attend for some time. One member made application for the district degree* Greetings were received from Bros. Watts and Hodgkinson (Auckland) and Bro. G. Price (Wellington). Members were urged to take up the essays submitted bv the D.E.S.W.'s. Sisters Paull and Gain, which were both interesting and educational. The "visits to the All Nations and Pride of Waitati Lodges by members of the Rescue Lodge recently were favourably commented on. ' The following members were recommended to commissioned offices:— Bro. T H. Dalton. for D.G.C.T., and Bro. W. M'Millan, for S.J.W. The programme for the evening, " Sing, Say, or Pay," met with a good response, two or three only electing to pay. The items were as follows:—Songs—Sisters E. Brooks, E. Steedman, Bros. J. Hilton and E. Brooks; guitar selections, Bro. J. Smith; address, Bro. R. Mercer; readings—Sisters Mrs lies, M. Thomas, E. Duncan, and Bro. W. A. lies. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the visitors and those who contributed to the programme. FORESTRY. The quarterly summoned meeting of Court Enterprise was held last Tuesday evening, C.R, Bro. G. Edwards presiding All the officers were present, and a large number of members also. Invitations were received from Court Woodlands Pride for July 3, Court Pride of Leith for July 5, Court Pride of Green Island for July 12, and it was decided to attend each -one officially. It was decided that Mrs. and Bro. P. B. Patton's evening be held on August 8. in the new hall. Stuart street. Bro. Faulkner tendered his resignation as 5.8.. and this was received with regret. P.C.R. Bro. Joe Patton was elected to the office, and Bro Warren to the office of J.B. P.C.R Bro' W. Fleming, of Court Pride of Dunedin, installed the brothers, both of whom returned thanks for the honour. The C.R. gave the toast to the "Fallen Soldiers ' also the toast to "The Visitors," which was responded to by Bro. Fleming on behalf of Court Pride of Dunedin.
