CONCORDAT WITH VATICAN VIRTUALLY CONCLUDED (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, July 2. A Vatican City message says that a concordat with the Hitler Government is virtually concluded. It consists of 32 points, 27 of which are understood to have been already initialled. The Pope will receive Herr von Pa pen after the concordat has been initialled, probably on Monday. CATHOLIC EDUCATION. ADEQUATE ASSURANCES. BERLIN, July 2. It is understood that Cardinal Pacelli and Herr von Papen reached a concordat in principle between the Vatican and Germany, linking the existing Vatican agreements with Prussia, Bavaria, and Baden. It is presumed that Herr Hitler will give adequate assurances in connection with Catholic education. The Pope is expected to agree to the dissolution of the Centrists, subject to guarantees. THE CENTRE PARTY. DISSOLUTION AGREED TO. BERLIN, July 2. The Catholic Centreists have decided to dissolve and patiently await Herr Hitler’s conditions of official dissolution. A completely “ totalitarian ” state will have then been attained. The Christian People’s Party has also voluntarily dissolved. The chief anxiety of the Centreiets relates to the fate of their large number of Reichstag deputies who wish admission to Nazi ranks, but are hardly likely to be accepted. UNREST IN BRUNSWICK. DRIVE AGAINST COMMUNISTS. BERLIN, July 2. There is renewed unrest among the working classes in Brunswick, where an intensive anti-Communist drive resulted in a Nazi Storm Trooper being killed on June 29. The Nazis on Saturday night were commemorating their dead comrade at the spot where he was shot when they were fired on froni a neighbouring garden, The police have now been ordered ruthlessly to shoot with their revolvers distributors of Marxist pamphlets. GERMANY AND AUSTRIA. ATTEMPTED RECONCILIATION. VIENNA, July 2. The newspaper Achturblatt states that Signor Mussolini is attempting a reconciliation between Herr Hitler and Dr Dolfuss. It is intended that it should coincide with the signing of the FourPower Pact at Rome when the two will meet, and it is hoped will bury the hatchet and inaugurate the close co-oper-ation of Austria and Hungary under German and Italian protection.
