LORD TRENCHARD AND TRICKSTERS
(From Our Own Correspondent.) LONDON, May 26. The police arc continuing to make a determined attempt to wipe out the confidence trickster, who lias been much in evidence recently in London. Lord Trenchard, the Chief Commissioner, has issued a statement from Scotland Yard detailing (lie methods employed by tricksters to beguile strangers. “ Several cases of this nature have recently occurred,” the commissioner says, “and it is requested that persons who are so accosted, and who suspect that an attempt is being made to obtain money from them, should pretend to agree with the suggestions made and, without alarming (he trickster, communicate with the police at the first available opportunity cither at New Scotland Yard or any police station. “ Managers and cashiers at banks, bank ing agencies and money changers are in a 'position to render valuable aid in an endeavour to stamp _ out the confidence trick by warning visitors who appear to be excitedly withdrawing large sums of money or changing credit notes or travellers’ cheques for abnormal amounts into cash.”
