WAITAKI HYDRO NOTES
, HUOBY FOOTBALL. A meeting of the Waitaki Rugby Football Sub-union was held at Duntroon on Thursday evening. Mr Laird (president) occupied the chair, there being a full attendance of delegates. A letter waa received from the Ngapara Club tendering its resignation, on the grounds that there were insufficient players to field a Senior team. After considerable discussion Ngapara’s resignation was accepted with regret, the resignation to date as from June 22. A protest was received from the Duntroon Club against the action of the Georgetown Club in playing four players from Ngapara on June 24. —It was decided to uphold Duntroon’s protest, the the match to be replayed at Duntroon. Mr T. Direen, referee in the NgaparaGcorgetown match, reported having ordered off A. Grant, of Duntroon, for illegal tackling. This player appeared before the sub-union, and explained that he was under the impression the player tackled had the ball. Taking into consideration the favourable report of the referee, he was placed on the cautioned list.
Mr C. M. Barclay, secretary of the, subunion, tendered his" resignation on account of his leaving the district. —The president, in moving that Mr Barclay’s resignation he accepted with regret, said that he had been transferred on promotion to a position ns headmaster of the Queenstown School. Mr Barclay had been secretary of the sub-union for the past five years, and during that time he had been a tower of strength not only to the subunion, but also to football generally in the North Otago district and elsewhere, not forgetting the running of a primary competition within the sub-union. The other delegates present also spoke of the sterling qualities of Mr Barclay, and of the esteem in which he was held throughout the district.—A motion to insert a minute of appreciation of his services was carried by acclamation. Mr S. Wills lias been appointed sub-union secretary pro tern. Mr A. Dobson was appointed manager of the sub-union team to play North Otago at Oamaru on July 15
On account of the inlere.lub matches it has been decided not to hold the Possibles v. Probables match on Saturday.
