Ministerial. The Minister of Employment (Mr A. Hamilton) received a deputation yesterday morning from representatives from the City Council, borough councils, and county councils in regard to certain unemployment problems. In the afternoon he received, in private, deputations from the City Council and the Otago Harbour Board, and in public from the University Council and the Otago Hospital Board and the South Island Fruit Brokers Federation and the Otago Retail Fruiterers’ Association. The Minister will leave this afternoon by the through express for Invercargill. A Press Association telegram from Wellington states that the Minister of Public Works (Mr J. Bitchener) was accorded a civic reception at Nelson yesterday. He visited tjje primary schools and the colleges, and met deputations on local matters in the afternoon. He was to 'leave for Wellington last night, t The Under-secretary of Mines (Mr A. H. Kimbell) is at present on a visit to Dunedin. Mr H. Mayer, of Wellington, president of the New Zealand Bowling Association, arrived in Dunedin last night. A Press Association cablegram from Colombo states that Mr C. Brayne (Ceylon Land Commissioner) will visit Australia and New Zealand in September to study marketing problems. The Rev. H. B. Wingfield, brother of the Rev. A. Wingfield, of St. Kilda, has resigned his charge of the Point Chevalier (Auckland) district and the Rev. H. J* L. Goldthorpe. formerly of the Dunedin diocese, has resigned from the position of vicar of Dargaville. A Press Association telegram from Wellington states that Mr 6. F. Bothamley, at present second clerk assistant and reader of Bills in the House of Representatives, has been appointed clerk assistant in succession to Mr W. I. Dasent, who has retired. Mr H. N. Dollimope, at present record clerk, has been promoted to the position of second clerk assistant. At a meeting of the New Zealand Free Kindergarten Union in Wellington last week, the following resolution was adopted:—“That the executive of the Free Kindergarten Union desires to place on record its deep regret at the loss which it has suffered by the death of Sir Thomas Sidey. whose services as legal adviser have been invaluable. The capable manner in which he assisted in placing before the Government the needs of the Free Kindergartens has earned the wannest appreciation and the executive wishes to tender to Lady Sidey and relatives its heartfelt sympathy and to_ assure them of its sincere gratitude for his services.
