FORM U.8.132A \ ’ Members of groups who have been notified that they have not returned Form U.B. 32a are informed that they must not start work with their group this week. ' Any man who does start without completing the form and without a note from the Labour Bureau will not be paid.

WORKING BOOTS The Labour Department in Dunedin has supplied all country orders in the Otago district which have come ter hand tor boots, approximately 500 pairs haying been sent forward. In addition to these over 300 pairs of boots have been issued to Dunedin relief workers. At the end of last week between 400 and 500 men worked for their boots and have not yet called to collect them. It is expected that another 400 will be given the opportunity to work next week and receive their boots.

.No. 4 DISTRICT Lime will be distributed from the Melbourne street corporation yard between 1 and 4 p.m. next Friday. The charge is 3d for 141 b, and all recipients must supply their own bags. To-day the district office will be closed until 4.30 p.m., when picture passes only will be distributed.

WORKERS’ MOVEMENT At the last meeting of the Unemployed Workers’ Movement, Mr Lee reported that one donation of coal (Mr A. J. Allen) and one hag of wood had been sent along. Morning and afternoon tea had been provided as far as possible, and everything done to make the workers who came along comfortable. Donations of jam, bread, and other eatables would be thankfully received any day at the back of the hall. The chairman (Mr J. Gilchrist) announced that a deputation would interview the local Unemployment Committee on the question of wet weather payment and other complaints, and the Anti-Camp Council would meet as usual.

• ANTI-CAMP COUNCIL A meeting of women wa s held last week in reference to the Government’s compulsory camp scheme, and it was decided to form a women’s branch of the AntiCamp Council. Mrs Reeves was elected president, Mrs Townley vice-president, and Mrs Ferguson secretary. A strong committee of 16 women was formed.

WOMEN’S COMMITTEE The fortnightly meeting of the Women's Unemployment Committee was held last week. Mrs Aslin was in the chair, and it w r as reported that during the past four weeks there had been 49 new registrations, and 32 positions have been filled. An excellent report was received regarding the classes in dressmaking and cooking now in progress in the rocyns. These rooms are airy, light and wellfurnished for this purpose, and rfi happy atmosphere pervades this centre where women and girls arc employed. The work centre serves the purpose of occupying the girls’ time while they wait for regular positions, and helping them to be thoroughly proficient in sewing, cooking, and housekeeping. In addition, their health is looked after. In the kitchen the girls are taught the rudiments. of housework and cooking, the meals being prepared and cooked by them under the direction of an instructress. _ The air of cleanliness which characterises the kitchen is complete evidence of the face that the girls are well grounded in the first essentials of domestic work and cleanliness. In the sewing room the girls are taught practical sewing, an example of which is the making and renovating of clothing. AH single Unemployed women and girls are requested to register at the work rooms of the committee, Hannah’s Buildings, George street. The committee will be grateful if employers requiring workers will apply to the organising secretary at the rooms.

MOSGIEL RELIEF COMMITTEE A public meeting -will be held in the Coronation Hall at Mosgiel to-night to discuss the organisation of a campaign to relieve the present distress among the people of the district. Mr A. E. Ansell, M.P., and members of the _ Mosgiel Borough Council, ahd tlie Tnicri County Council will bo present. A large attendance of the public is requested. Mr A. F. Quelch (Mayor of Mosgiel) will preside.

ENTERTAINMENT FOR UNEMPLOYED In connection with the Unemployed Men’s Social Club, carried on under the auspices of the Council of Christian Congregations, an enjoyable entertainment was given last. Thursday evening in the Y.M.C.A. Assembly Hull by the Knikorai Presbyterian Church Choir and Orchestra, under the leadership of Mr J. Matliesou, choirmaster. ■ The room was well filled by unemployed men and their families. In addition to orchestral and choir items, solos were rendered by Mesdames Gilchrist and Sutherland, Alias APAlorran, the Kev. J. ]). Smith, Messrs N. Jones, F. Jones, and D. Ovens, a duet by the Misses Dud, recitations by Misses H.Ness and Hnddard and the Rev. J. D. Smith, a violin solo by Mr G. Dennis, and a flagelotte solo bv Air H. Ram age. Community singing concluded the programme. Alisa ATatheson officiated at the piano throughout. Tht Rev. J. D. Smith, in addition lo being ong of the artists, acted as chairman.

At the close of the entertainment the Rev. George Miller, on behalf of the Council of Christian Congregations and the Club Committee, proposed a vote of thanks to Mr Matheson and his party, after which supper was served.

WAIPUKURAU UNEMPLOYED DECISION NOT TO STRIKE. (Peb United Pbess Association.) _ WAIPUKURAU, July 1. At a special meeting of the Waipukurau branch of the National Union of Unemployed last night it was decided by a large majority not to strike at present, but it is understood that Waipnwa the unemployed have resolved upon striking ia sympathy with the Hastings and Napier unemployed organisation.
