PRISONERS RELEASED
THE VICKERS ENGINEERS MUST LEAVE THE COUNTRY (United Press Association ) (By Electric Telegraph—Copy ght.) MOSCOW, July 1. (Received July ”2, at 8 p.m.) The Vickers engineers, Thornton and .Macdonald, have been released, and are spending the night at the British Embassy. The Tass Agency’s version of the release declares that Britain lifted the embargo in the afternoon and the Soviet set the prisoners free in the evening under an obligation to leave the country. Negotiations for a trade agreement will be resumed on July 3. PREVENTING STAGED TRIALS. LONDON, July 1. (Received July 2, at 8 p.m.) It is believed that the Anglo-Russian agreement will ensure that staged trials similar to that of the Vickers employees will not recur. It provides other means for settling differences, and the terms have been cabled to Moscow for endorsement. — | As a result of the trial in Moscow in April Thornton was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment and Macdonald to two years.
