OAMARU JOCKEY CLUB

WINTER MEETING HELD ANOTHER WIN FOR POLYDORA A DOUBLE TO DRACULA. The Oamaru Jockey Club’s winter meeting was held in fine weather following heavy rain overnight, which made the going heavy' and greasy. The going tended, to upset form, as several horses could not act in the heavy ground. There was a fairly good, attendance, but the overnight rain and a threat of its continuance apparently prevented many of the chib’s usual patrons from putting in an appearance. The card provided some interesting racing, without any particular exciting finishes. Barrington and Night Cap were struck out of the Hack and Hunters’ Steeplechase. A slow pace was set, and this suited Polling Day, as he had matters all his own way over the final six furlongs. Antrim Boy appeared to hold a good chance, but he hooked the third last jump and this took all the dash out of him. Quinopal moved up at the finish to get third place, but Royal Saxon and the others made a poor show. The Arrowsmith gelding Dracula scored an _ easy win in the Novice Stakes, in which Helen Gold came with a late run, .but had no chance with the winner, Polyface stayed on better than Hytemoana and Black Watch at the end of the Oamaru Trot. Hytemoana shaped promisingly, and has a fair turn of speed. Merry Peel, Grecian Princes, and Town Major were struck out of the Grange Handicap. The race was generally regarded as a good thing for Polydora, and so it proved, as

she won well from Salmo Salar, who was favoured by the fact that they got away from a moving start. Mount Boa made his run too far from home and, after leading into the straight with Polydora and Kakara, faded out. Silver-Sight appeared to have the Winter Hack Handicap won at the distance, after heading off Dressy, but' in the last half-furlong Palmary came with a good run and won by a length. Silver Sight might have won if more use had been made of him. Sunbrown -proved too good for the opposition in the Waikaura Trot, and Dracula confirmeed the good impression made in the Novice Stakes by scoring another comfortable win in the Farewell Handicap. Repudiation put in a challenge at the distance, but Dracula came away, and is obviously a much imnroved horse. The day r s sport went from start to finish under good management, and Mr A. D. MTvor got his fields away from a good line. - Following are the results:— HACK AND HUNTERS’ STEEPLE-
