SURPLUS EGGS

ORGANISATION OF EXPORT CENTRAL COMMITTEE APPOINTED. (Pee United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, June 30. A conference of egg marketing agents and poultry producers, convened by the Department of Agriculture, was held yesterday. v, , ~ Dr C. J. Reakes, who presided, said the conference had been called to discuss ways and means of organising tbe export of surplus eggs during the coming season, in order to prevent the collapse of the local market as a result of the seasonal glut? For varying reasons, principally on account of low expenses, and, provided there was a reasonably profitable market, poultry farming must continue to be a valuable adjunct and an important factor in the success of small holdings. The only way to maintain a profitable market in the flush of the season was to organise the export of the unconsmnable surplus. After reports of what was being done in various parts had been made by the delegates, Dr Reakes said a central committee, located in Wellington, and with authority to act on behalf of the four provincial' committees, was essential _in order that the reservation of shipping space and other activities could be carried out expeditiously. He suggested that the committee should consist of one representative of the marketing agents, one of the producers, and one of the department. This was unanimously adopted. Mr F. Picot and Mr J. N. M'Lean were appointed to represent the marketing agents and producers respectively, and it was subsequently announced that Mr A. Ironside would represent the department. It wag resolved that the expenses of the Central Committee should be borne on a pro rata basis by the four provincial committees.
