EARTHQUAKE RELIEF FUND
FINAL ALLOCATION OF MONEYS ASSISTANCE TO GISBORNE AND WAIROA. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, June 30, With reference to the final allocation of the balance of the Hawke’s Bay Earthquake Relief Fund, which was decided on at a recent meeting of the executive of the Central Committee, the Acting Prime Minister (Mr J. G. Coates) said to-day that the fund, which, with interest added, amounted to over £400,000, was sufficient to meet all assistance considered necessary. Mr Coates recalled the earthquake of last September at Gisborne and Wairoa and the fact that the response to the appeal to the public for assistance had been insufficient to meet the needs of the sufferers. It was found possible, he said, to provide tbe required amount out of the Hawke’s Bay Relief. Fund. The total so paid was approximately £4BOO. ihe administration of the fund would have been completed earlier had it not been necessary to investigate the claims ansing from the Wairoa-Gisborne eaithquake.
