Personal names have often been given to articles of apparel or of common use. Wellingtons and Bluchers are two types of footwear, a Mackintosh is a waterproof cloak, a Trilby is a hat and a Gladstone is a bag. Most people think that the bowler hat is so called bv reason of its bowl-like shape. It comes as a surprise to learn that it is a hat originally designed by William Bowler, a hatte" in the borough. The slang name for it is " billycock," and that turns out to be just as personal as the true name. "Huia" is an Otngo butter, and is the finest flavoured in New Zealand.—Advt.
