PLUNKET SOCIETY

MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the committee of the Dunedin branch of the Pfunket Society was held on Friday last. There were present: Mrs Joseph M'Utorge (in the chair), Lady Allen, Mesdames Taverner, D. Keid, C Callaway, Brown, J. M. Paterson, Mandeno, A. RegK, Cairney, Cunninghume, Cleghorn, Watson,J. C. M'George, Williams, and the Misses N. Reid and Downie Stewart. Before commencing the business of the meeting, Mrs M'Ueorge referred to the serious loss which not only the Dunedin branch but the whole society had suffered by the passing of Sir Thomas Sidey. She said that it did not require words from her for the committee to realise all that Sir Thomas's interest, help, and advice over so. many years had meant in the carrying "oh of the society's "work. < As a member of the Advisory Board he had been invaluable. , His long association with and appreciation of the work founded by Sir Truby King and his thorough knowledge and' understanding of the gradual evolution of the organisation had specially fitted him as 'an adviser, and in the passing of Sir Thomas Sidey and Mr J. A. Johnstone within, a few weeks of each other the society had, indeed, suffered an irreparable loss. A letter was received from Mrs J. A. Johnstone tendering her resignation from the office of president of the Dunedin branch and of the council of the society on account of ill-health. Mrs Johnstone's resignation was received with regret. Mrs Joseph M'George was elected to the office of president of the Dunedin branch. As Dunedin is the headquarters of the society, the office of president of the branch carries with it the responsibilities of the office of president of the council of the society, the executive of the headquarters branch being the executive of the council.
