Investment Talks by “The Old Counsellor" No. 10: WOMEN AND INVESTMENT. The question Is sometimes ask*d by women: " Why should I concern myself with Investments? ” Well, women are to-day being confronted with more Investment responsibilities than ever before. The wealth of this country, as most everyone knows, was up till three years ago Increasing rapidly. What was not generally known, however, was the Increasing percentage of Its ownership which was passing to women. It seems logical, therefore, that there Is a growing need among wom-u for a more general knowledge of the fundamentals of sound Investment. For some time past the responsible officers of The Securities Corporation have made an effort to place the advisory and service facilities of The House at the disposal of women Investors, These gentlemen tell me the number of women who avail themselves of these facilities Is steadily Increasing. I hope, therefore, that the Information given In this and subsequent talks will prove valuable to others seeking reliable guidance In Investing their money. Whether a woman is home-maker for a family of large or small Income she should, I think, so understand the principles of Investment that, when planning the family budget, she may place a true valuation on putting some money aside. For Instance, a regular Investment of, say, £5 a month in sound Debentures yielding only 5 per cent. Will, with Interest promptly reinvested as earned, produce In 30 years a total of nearly £4140. Of this amount, only a little over two-flfths will actually have been saved, while over a half will represent compound Interest. The modern woman by'careful study 4nd fsy consultation with thoroughly reliable investment houses can Invest her funds as safely and with Jiist as much success as men.
