ALLEGED SLANDER

SALE OF CHEMICAL FORMULA EVIDENCE FOR THE DEFENCE. (Pee United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, June 13. The claim for £2500 damages in which Reginald Charles Boddie, sales organiser, of Wellington, alleges slander against James Dickson Sievwrigbt, retired, also Wellington, was continued in the Supreme Court to-day before Mr Justice Ostler. The plaintiff complains of statements alleged to have been made falsely and maliciously by the defendant to one H. J. Lockyer affecting the plaintiff’s credit and reputation in connection with the business of a syndicate for the manufacture of a chemical preparation in which the parties were associated, Sievwright gave evidence of using substantially the words alleged against him in the statement of claim. Witness detailed his business connection with the plaintiff at the time he made the statements on which the action was founded. Witness had no knowledge of the plaintiff’s dealings with the Christchurch company, and knew nothing of the Auckland transaction at that time. He based his allegations that the plaintiff was a rogue and ought to be in gaol on his dealings with Mrs Miller and witness himself.

Sydney Herbert Dawe, salesman, gave evidence concerning dealings with the syndicate. He said he considered Boddie a good salesman, but not a good business man. He took people on trust too much. The case was adjourned until to-mor-row.
