MARY PRATT CONCERT
The box plan for the concert tendered to Miss Alary Pratt, which is to take place in the Town Hall on Wednesday next, will open to-morrow, and notwithstanding that the big Town Hall is being used for the concert, there is every indication that the booking will be very heavy, and that a capacity house is assured. Very unusual interest is being taken in the concert, and the sale of tickets to date has been phenomenal. This is accounted for probably in a large measure by the fact that the programme is a remarkably comprehensive one, and of the type which is all too rarely presented. The items comprise vocal numbers by most of the leading artists of the city and choral numbers by the Royal Dunedin Male Choir, an ever-popular body, and bv Ernest Drake’s Student Choir, which has rapidly made a name for itself in the past year or two for effective choral work. Miss Pratt will be heard with the last-mentioned choir in “ Land of Hope and Glory,” for which work her superb contralto should lend itself admirably. The Dunedin Symphony Orchestra, which has so rapidly risen to prominence under the capable leadership of M. de Rose, will also be performing. The balance of the programme consists of items by prominent musicians. The programme is comprehensive enough to suit all tastes, but Miss Pratt will undoubtedly be the main attraction. Her work has always been popular, and no doubt her vast public will be present in full force to help to do honour to this young singer, of whose artistry Dunedin music lovers are justly proud.
