BODY-LINE BOWLING
COMMENT BY HOBBS “A VENOMOUS THING", (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, June 8. (Received June 8, at 5.5 p.m.) In his book “ The Fight for the Ashes ” Hobbs says: “Bradman is a better batsman than ever. He has more strokes, and is the best dry-wicket batsman in the world. It was not ordinary fast bowling even of the Larwood type that reduced Bradman and Australia. It was done by body-line bowling plus Larwood’s great pace and accuracy, together with exceptionally clever placing of the field. You will agree that this is more than enough to make any batsman think. “Shortly, I'considered it bowling the purpose of which was to intimidate ~Ec batsmen. Such tactics are dangerous, unjustified, and not in the best interests of the game. It is absolutely wrong that it should be used by anyone at any time. It seems to me that the leg theory is a most venomous thing.”
