THE GOLDEN HARVEST
VESSEL DOCKED FOR REPAIRS (Special to Dailt Times'.) WELLINGTON, June 8. The American steamer Golden Harvest went into dock to-day. She left her berth at the Aotea Quay shortly after 10 a.m. and . was in dock half an hour afterwards. The only pumping done this morning was to raise the dock almost to the ship’s keel. A diver went down immediately the vessel went into dock and he was engaged in various small tasks of adjustment, etc. Pumping was commenced in earnest this afternoon, but was not continuous, the dock being raised only a little at a time. By 3 p.m. the dock was half-raised, and the operation was completed about 5.30, when 13 feet 8 inches of the vessel still remained under water. The first dents caused when the Golden Harvest grounded on Barrett’s lleef on the evening of May 30 are now visible. Scrim was placed round the vessel to prevent the escape of oil. Sawdust has been thrown on the water to collect the oil, and men are engaged in mopping it up. It will not be known how long the vessel will remain in dock until a thorough examination of the hull has been made.
