In 1931 two large Dublin hospitals, so far from benefiting greatly from the sweepstakes, suffered a decline in their voluntary contributions of 37 per cent, and 20 per cent, respectively; and it is stated that not one free bed has been added to the hospital accommodation in Ireland from sweepstake ■ money. For th# Derby sweep it was 7.2, for the Cesar#witch 9.4, and for this last occasion nearly 11 per cent.” , .
