WOMEN'S DIVISION N,Z. FARMERS’ UNION

The monthly meeting of the Gienomaru Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held in the Glenomaru Hall on Saturday evening. The president presided over a good attendance of members and gave a brief account of the conference held in Dunedin during Show Week. A box on “ Gardening ” was then read and discussed. The for the evening were Mesdames J. Jones. A. Jones, and D. Coppin. A good attendance of members of the Omakau branch met on June 1, Mrs Charles (president) presiding. Mrs Trnesdale, sen., demonstrated “quiltmaking” by using washed sheep’s wool, and at her request the branch decided by joint efforts to make a quilt for a deserving local family. The roll call was answered with handy hints and favourite recipes. An interchange of books was initiated and some good books were circulated in the branch. The hostesses for the afternoon—Mrs and Miss Clouston—then entertained fellow members and a bright and happy time was spent with competitions and short speeches. A competition, “ Something new out of something old,” was won by Mrs Wilson, with Mrs Charles second. Several intending new members and a visiting member from Wanaka were welcomed. A vote of thanks to the hostesses and to the chair closed an enjoyable afternoon.
