MUNICIPAL GASWORKS

REVENUE EARNING CAPACITY WAIHI COUNCIL CONCERNED (Special to Daily Times.) AUCKLAND, June 8. The revenue earning capacity of the Waihi Municipal Gasworks has been rapidly diminishing during the past three or four years, and the losses on the service are now such as to give the Borough Council much concern for the future of the department. It was suggested .recently that the losses might be minimised by supplying the consumers of gas with cookers on the time-payment system, but the council is faced with the difficulty of finding the money with which to purchase these in sufficient numbers. This and other matters were discussed in committee at a meeting of the council, but nothing definite was decided on. Pending a further investigation the town clerk will prepare a detailed statement of the finances of the department, and an independent outside report wifi be obtained on the position of the service and the condition of the plant generally.
